Here comes the night

The website Dali Gallery offers a commentary on “Shades of Night Descending”, another Dali masterpiece from 1931, in which it says the best evidence of the painting’s “obsessive character” is “one of the least noticed” elements: the big shadow across the bottom.
I don’t know – I sort of noticed that right away. But it does go on to point out that the shadow is mimicked by the rocky “reef” in the middle, and the gimmick here, if I can call it that, is that these are the shadows of a grand piano. See the rest.
