Not the sweetest guy around

Some defining additional thoughts on Paul Cézanne following my previously posted biography . These are the words of Nicolas Pioch, who writes for WebMuseum and is readily found lurking at Ibiblio.org.

Cézanne is not an easy man to love, but professors and painters adore him. Art critics lavish him with superlatives, including “a prophet of the 20th century”, “the most sensitive painter of his time”, “the greatest artist of the 19th century” and “the father of modern art”. But he’s not quite a household name, and his posters have never been best-sellers. See the rest.

In her book “Essential Dali”, Kirsten Bradbury explains that the maestro’s inspiration for this well-known painting came from a conversation overheard between two fishermen discussing a local man who would stare at himself in a mirror for hours. See the rest.
