Early American Savages

Recently finished reading and reviewing David McCullough’s too-short-but-great history “1776″ and, searching for a suitable illustration for The Nation, came across this weird and wonderful thing.
It’s the Savage family!
Edward Savage was a painter, engraver and museum keeper who was born in Princeton, Massachusetts, in 1761 and died there 56 years later. His kids probably had nothing to do with his early demise – a lot of people died young then. See the rest.
