Dali Planet #87: Havens in the sun

daliartThe Dalis stayed in several places while in Monterey, California, in the ’40s. One was the estate of a Colonel Mack whom they befriended, which in 1950 became the Santa Catalina School for Girls, an independent Catholic institution that has blossomed from Mack’s original hacienda.

Dali had a wonderful time in California and kept (almost) everyone amused, but the hostilities in Europe were never far from his mind, as depicted in “The Face of War” from 1940 (click for an enlargement).
