The Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima

Dali’s 1962 “The Vision of Fatima” belongs to the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, although it’s not clear whether the painting is on display at their shrine retreat outside Washington, New Jersey.

A $15,000 commission, “Vision of Fatima” is Dali’s interpretation of Hell as revealed to the young shepherds who encountered the Virgin Mary in a Portuguese pasture in 1917.

The World Apostolate of Fatima/Blue Army seeks to save souls and bring about global peace through prayer and the rosary, noting that at Fatima Jesus’ mother warned “that God would punish the world for its offences against Him by wars, hunger, the spread of communism, persecution of the Church, even the annihilation of various nations”. Prayer, the Blue Army believes, resulted in communism’s demise in Russia.
