Dali Planet #140: La Residencia
Back in Spain in 1966, Dali helped convert Cadaques’ old Miramar boarding house from an art gallery back into an inn, this time the Hotel Cap Creus. Built in 1904, it was the same age as him, and Picasso had lodged in the fonda in 1910, one of many men of the arts and sciences who came to town in search of fun in the sun.
In 1978 it changed hands again and soon after became the Hotel La Residencia, as it remains today, with some Dali memorabilia in the lounge and his sundial still visible on the facade.
Below is a Robert Descharnes photo of Dali wielding one of his paintbrush alternatives, an octopus, as used to create “Medusa’s Head” in 1960.
