Dali Planet #149:
Studio Europa Sonor
Dali was at the Europa Sonor recording studio somewhere along Rue de la Gaite in Paris in 1971 helping Vangelis Papathanassiou and Costas Ferris “celebrate” the non-release of the album “666″ by their band, Aphrodite’s Child. Their label had found it too long and its concept — based on the New Testament Apocalypse of St John — too risky, though it emerged years later pared down to two discs instead of (at least) four, and remains a classic for fans of progressive rock.

Costas had met Dali at an Olivier Mosset painting exhibition, invited him round to hear the album, and was astonished that the great man sat quietly rapt throughout the whole playback. Dali gleefully pronounced it “a music of stone” and said it reminded him of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. He enthusiastically volunteered to get the album heard by staging a massive “happening”.
