Yours for $25,000

“Portrait of Mona Lisa”, yes. Quite old, too. But no, it’s not that one.
This is tagged “Italian School 17th century, after Leonardo Da Vinci” for Sotheby’s late-January sale “Important Old Master Paintings, Including European Works of Art” in New York. Expected retail price between $18,000 and $25,000.
What is that on her shoulder, anyway?

Who cares what’s on her shoulder; it’s probably a chip anyway. The important thing is the price. At last! An affordable Mona Lisa. (I thought it would never happen.) Now all our place needs is a cheap ‘Laughing Cavalier’ and a quick dust round the lavatorial areas and it’ll be ready just in time to admit paying members of the public for guided tours.
They’d better wipe their boots before they all come traipsing in, though!
I have an EXCELLENT “Dogs Playing Poker”, Chris, a real laugh riot, yours for a song to be named at a later date.
Brilliant! Actually, we already have two of Arthur Sarnoff’s pictures of dogs playing pool. No, really, we do. Poker dogs would make a great addition to our collection. You don’t think I might have been a taste and style guru in a former life, do you?
Well, over at Dorseyland you did mention a glass-topped table. Dali had an entire room with a glass floor, the better to compose paintings of angels from a terrestrial perspective … and look up their skirts.
