Where Rockwell stole his ideas

“The World Tour” by domestic-amusements specialist André-Henri Dargelas (1828-1906).

Geography in the days before Google Earth. A French artist’s comment on Russia, where the young lad’s butt is parked, or am I thinking too much?

Dargelas lived in the artists’ colony Edouard Frere established in Ecouen on the northern brow of Paris, where the realists, encouraged by John Ruskin’s enthusiasm, stayed close to home, hearth, church and their beloved childhood memories, an idealism that makes them ideal poster boys for today’s poster shops.
